Where It Started

I Was Tired of Dreading Gift Shopping

Gift-giving is supposed to be one of the most joyful things we do for the people we love. But for me — and honestly, for almost everyone I have ever talked to about it — it had become one of the most stressful.

I would lie awake at night thinking, “Mom's birthday is next week. What do I get her? I already gave her that candle set last year. And the year before.”

Then would come the rabbit hole — hours on Amazon, tab after tab, reading reviews, second-guessing everything, finally picking something, and then still wondering if it was actually right for her. Half the time I'd end up with a gift card and a side of guilt for not thinking of something more personal.

And it wasn't just the shopping. It was the tracking. I would think of a great gift idea for someone in March and completely forget it by November. I had birthday ideas scattered across my Notes app, my texts, a sticky note on my desk, and somewhere in the back of my mind where good ideas go to die.

There had to be a better way.

The Idea

What If Gift-Giving Could Actually Be Easy?

I started thinking about what I actually needed. Not just a search engine. Not just another gift list app. I wanted something that could think through the gift with me — that understood who I was buying for, what they were into, what the occasion was, and what I could realistically spend. And then give me good ideas instead of 2,000 random products to scroll through.

I wanted a place where I could save ideas as I found them — not for myself, but for the people on my list, so that when the moment came, I was ready.

I wanted to be able to share a wishlist with my family so they would stop asking me what I wanted for Christmas. And I wanted a way for my kids to do the same — so I could actually get them something they would love instead of guessing.

I wanted all of this in one place. And I could not find it anywhere.

So I decided to build it myself.

The Build

Building Something I Had Never Done Before

Here is the thing I should probably tell you up front: I am not a software developer. I did not have a tech background. I was — and still am — a busy mom juggling a full-time job, a newborn, and homeschooling a teenager. Building a website from scratch was not something I had ever done before.

But I had a clear vision of what SureGift needed to be, and I was not willing to let the fact that I did not know how to code stop me.

So I started learning. I asked questions. I made mistakes. I built things, broke them, and rebuilt them. I spent late nights and early mornings figuring out pieces of this one step at a time. There were moments where I genuinely wondered if I was in over my head.

But every time I thought about the problem I was trying to solve — and about all the people who feel the same way I do about gift-giving — I kept going.

SureGift is the result of that stubbornness, that vision, and a lot of love poured into something I genuinely believe can help people.

The Calling

I Felt Called to Build This

I want to be honest about something, because it is a real part of this story.

I am a person of faith, and throughout the process of building SureGift, there were moments — more than I can count — where I felt a quiet, persistent sense that I was supposed to do this. Not just that it was a good idea. But that it was my idea to pursue.

Gift-giving, at its best, is one of the purest ways we show love to one another. It is how we say, “I see you. I know you. You matter to me.” And I believe that making that easier — helping people celebrate the people they love with more intention and less stress — is genuinely good work.

Some of the features on the road map, like the Angel Tree and the Silver Angel Tree, exist specifically because of this. Because gift-giving should not just be about the people we already have in our lives. It should also be about remembering the ones who might not have anyone else.

That is a part of what SureGift is meant to be — a platform that helps people give more generously, more thoughtfully, and more often.

What's Ahead

We Are Just Getting Started

Right now, SureGift has a Gift Finder, a curated Gift Vault, Favorites, and Wishlists. And I am proud of all of it. But honestly? We are still in the early chapters.

The full vision for SureGift is a complete gift-planning platform — one that supports every stage of the gift-giving journey. Here is some of what is coming:

Event Pages

Create a page for any occasion — birthday, shower, graduation, wedding — with all the details and a gift list in one shareable link.

Family Gift Hub

A shared space where families can coordinate who is giving what, so no one doubles up and no one is forgotten.

Gift Reminders

Never miss an important date again. Set reminders for the people who matter most.

Angel Tree & Silver Angel Tree

Community giving programs to help families and seniors receive gifts during the holiday season — because everyone deserves to feel remembered.

I am building all of this one piece at a time, the same way I built everything else — with intention, stubbornness, and a lot of heart.

Thank you for being here. Every person who uses SureGift is a reminder of why I started, and why I keep going.
